The biography of Rei Kawakubo

The ball of a high -voltage glamor in the spirit of the series “Dynasty”: Power Dressing, high stilettos, shine, and body cult. Against this radiant background, the Japanese burst into the Parisian fashion scene-quiet, unsociable, closed. Not from this world, in general. Ray Kawakubo and Jamamoto came to conquer Paris together. Then they were in a relationship, but they worked separately - each over their brand.

And they showed a saturated European public something that she did not expect to see. The total black, strange volumetric silhouettes that do not emphasize the figure and unprocessed edges with deliberately protruding threads, fashion editors nicknamed “Hiroshima-Shikom”. By today's standards of new ethics, it sounds monstrously - but 42 years ago no one has chosen yet.

What could be a complete failure, turns into a triumph. Strange Japanese take Paris storm and become the main topic of discussion. The word “deconstructivism” appears in the fashion dictionary, and Yamamoto with Kawakubo become the leaders of the nascent current, to which young and greedy to all the new Belgians will later join. And at the beginning of X, a mysterious Japanese woman with a short haircut stood apart in the world of fashion.

This is now we understand that the fashion can be different-bourgeois-calm, sexy, modest, bright or strict. Then there was no such diversity of trends and styles yet - and in many respects, Kawakubo we owe their appearance. In fact, she became a pioneer of DiverSity long before this word entered active use and filled everyone's soreness. Because she herself was different - not like anyone and even strange.

And this was her strength. Rather, she gave them freedom from imposed beauty standards, allowed not to overshadow herself in close uncomfortable costumes and stand on huge studs. She was the first of the large designers to study the relationship between body and clothing. And she showed that they are much more complicated than a banal desire to wrap this body into the fabric and somehow embellish.

Sometimes it, as it were, fuses with a dress, which becomes its continuation. The one that went down in history called Lumps and Bumps - overlays and pillows that imitate humps, growths and tumors. In parallel with complicated catwalking and installations, she releases bright wallets, sneakers, simple shirts and perfumes-what is scattered like hot pies. But still almost does not give an interview and does not like to explain his ideas.

But for this we love her.

In a world where everyone seeks to become a star of social networks and screaming about themselves as louder as possible, remain an introvert - luxury. And few can afford it.
