Igor Khatkov Biography

Knowledge of oneself is knowledge about the entire universe. In addition to titles, positions and awards, Agor Evgenievich achieved a lot, he is a professor, a corresponding member of the RAMS, the author of more scientific papers and four inventions, the main freelance specialist is the oncologist of the Moscow Department of Health, and at the same time an honorary member of the American Association of Surgeons, Dr.

Katkov has the main thing-he has a gift to treat people. Say, the first in Russia, he carried out the so -called laparoscopic pancreatododenal resection, that is, an operation, which is done only in a few clinics in the world. Since the year, Igor Evgenievich has been heading the Central Research Institute of Gastroenterology as the director, which he rebels and remakes under the multidisciplinary Moscow Clinical Center - a world -class medical institution.

In this interview, we discussed with Dr. Khatkov, why a person is a center of the universe and what everyone else is doing in this universe. How to talk about humanism in medicine? It just lies at the heart of the profession. For me, for example, humanism of modern medicine is not so obvious. Why is the current medicine a person? Why does the current person medicine? I personally do not know unequivocal answers, so I wanted to ask you my questions.

Well, let's say, here I read that you were born in Tashkent in the year. How was everything at this time with humanism? So, I was born there, and a few months later my parents returned home to Saratov, and since then I have never been to Tashkent. In Saratov, at the school of lessons called "humanism" we certainly did not lead. But it seems to me that humanism generally manifests itself: from the situation, the environment of a person, from his family, films, books.

I grew up in a normal environment of educated people. These were people who are humanely tuned to what is happening around. Normal, ordinary philanthropy. I had a normal, ordinary childhood with sports, a music school and fights. Well, such, without stabbing. I believe that this is completely normal for childhood, when you begin to feel that there is not only your pain, but also a stranger.

Once, I remember, we had a conflict in the yard, and I came home, I was offended. He went to his dad and brought him as an example of the father of a neighboring boy who always went out into the courtyard and solved the problems of his son, that is, stood up for him, tried to participate in his life. And I asked: why will you never leave? And he answered me: these are your questions, you must be able to solve them yourself.

I was probably five or six years old. If you are about something like that, then, probably, yes, for me it has become one of the important manifestations of the ideas of humanism. I have not decided either. For some time, a foreign language very much fascinated me, and the exact sciences were given to me well. I thought to enter Moscow State University at the department of economic geography of foreign countries, plunged into the study of geographical maps.

But then it became clear that there was a high chance of becoming just a meteorologist, and I definitely did not want to be a meteorologist. I also did not feel the craving for construction, although my dad was a very respected person in this area, for example, at one time, the construction of a village in the Far East at one time. It is difficult to say why, by the middle of the exhaust class, I eventually chose medicine.

Probably a combination of many circumstances, so far for me it is inexplicable. I definitely did not bear any special humanistic ideas. But then, by the way, when I analyzed all this, I remembered the case. The parents had a colleague from their circle of communication, who needed a serious operation on the spine. There was then a strong neurosurgical clinic in Saratov, and he came to operate.

Long restored for a long time, lay. And my grandmother decided to take something to him, and I volunteered, said: Come on. And after that he himself went to his bicycle every day, drove some pies. And so I went to this terrible ward, where several people lay with injuries of the cervical spine, a young guy, I remember lying with the gaps. I can’t say that it was somehow especially shocking me, but, apparently, some unspoken things still happened.

One way or another, but by the end of the graduation class, in May, the son of friends of my parents came, who is now the rector of one university of a large one, and said that there is a faculty of physical and chemical biology in Fiztekh. I thought: this is excellent, it is like medicine from the technical side. And went to do. I had no estimates worse. I got all the triples. Well, what to do?

I thought, I would wait a year, I will study for now in Saratov, and the next year I will definitely do it. So I ended up at the Medical Institute. And all. A month later, I realized that I would not leave anywhere. What exactly hooked you? Understand what is in principle a person, how he is arranged. Of the global thoughts that visited me then, it was one main thing: in principle, all people should have a basic medical education.

Just to understand how everything works for them. A person is difficult, interesting, logically arranged. Knowledge of this, about itself, oddly enough, expands the idea of the whole world. The better you understand yourself, the better you understand the world.Recently, I accidentally fell into my hands a book by Benjamin Franklin, whom for some reason many consider only the US president, although he was a businessman, a book publisher and an inventor, one of the authors of the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution.

So, he reflects that there is an earth in the universe that is not visible, and there are still some creatures on it, in essence, dust. But each of these creatures imagines itself the center of all this universe. And in this sense, of course, knowledge of oneself is knowledge of the whole universe. Photo: RIA Novosti - How did you make a decision on what you can, and you can’t even, but in principle, have the right to invade such a creature, to the center of the universe?

Something in all this to change, correct or improve? I was just interested, and this interest himself led me. Medical education consists of two global parts: firstly, it is a fundamental education when you study basic subjects-anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and so on, there are a lot of things there.

And then clinical disciplines begin. And you go to the departments, you look at what suits you. For example, I went to a neurosurgical circle, I really liked cardiology then, we had wonderful therapists, I found out about communication with patients, about mental processes. And then I somehow decided to go to the clinic on duty and began with what every surgeon starts-with emergency surgical care.

Appendicitis, cholecystitis, intestinal obstruction, bleeding and so on. This is always a very important stage, because he teaches you to make quick decisions, quickly navigate the situation and bear responsibility for it. Your character is changing rapidly, you become different, more decisive, probably human. Surgeons are generally considered cynics. They really are harsh and do not look at all humanists at all.

But in this regard, the experience of my teachers and generally people who were deeply versed in the profession always helped me. For example, in our country there was such a famous surgeon - St. Luke, whose personality and labors I respect the archbishop of Simferopol and Crimean Luke - gg. So, the following phrase is attributed to him. Allegedly, he went into the operating room, hung a cassock and said: "We’ll start, praying." Probably, this tells us all that the doctor is a weapon in the hands of the Lord.

There is no competition with the divine in medicine.
