For the first time, the oddities in the behavior of Chikatilo became noticeable in the year when, after graduating from the Faculty of Philology, he got a job at a boarding school in Novoshakhtinsk.

By that time, Andrei Chikatilo was 34 years old, he was married, his daughter and son were growing up. The wife of Feodosia, according to acquaintances, adored and cherished, did not dull his souls in children. True, there were some difficulties with marital responsibilities - but the wife believed that Andrei's shyness was all to blame. At school, however, the teacher of the Russian language did not show any shyness.

On the contrary, he often allowed himself the inappropriate actions against the students: he hugged his shoulders, touched, went into the bedrooms to the girls after the end. The cross on the teacher's career put a trick on the river. When the students bathed, Chikatilo swam to one of the high school students and began to grab it, pretending to save him from drowning.

The girl told the teachers about what happened, and the teacher’s opening hands convinced to write a statement about leaving. Chikatilo later tried to return to teaching, settling in a year at the school in the city, however, from there he was asked to quit after another scandal with harassment to the ward. Her body was found two days later by a small river, the girl was raped, cut and strangled.

In the process of investigation, Chikatilo came under suspicion, but was released, as his wife created him a convincing alibi. For the murder of a second -gradary subsequently shot her previously convicted neighbor. After Chikatilo was caught, he admitted that he was actually killed by the girl. True, then he refused his recognition, and as a result, the Supreme Court excluded Lena Lawnov from among the victims of the maniac - for the lack of evidence.

According to the official version, the list of atrocities of Chikatilo was opened in the year. Once starting to kill, the sadist no longer stopped: only in the year he took his life seven children and adolescents aged 9 to 18 years. In the year, seven more killed appeared on his account, in - still bloody reprisals continued until the fall of the year. Chikatilo had a gift to have people.

Under various pretexts, he convinced the victims to go to his house, to the country, to the beach or in the forest. The maniac “led” one boy with the permission of her mother: she and her son at the station were waiting for a train, and the teenager went with a charming fellow traveler to buy water in a kiosk. The mother of her son did not see any more alive.

Sometimes Chikatilo noticed the schoolchildren walking alone and followed them to deserted copses or wastelands. Girls offered to take them home or help bring bags. Most of the killed many stab wounds were noted, organs and groaned eyes were carved, and traces of rape were also present. Chikatilo did not have any victim’s half of the victim: he liked the fact that children and adolescents were completely defenseless before a strong sedimentary man.

However, sometimes the maniac “fell by the arm” and adults, the oldest of his victims was 44 years old. Once he took the life of two at once-a twenty-year-old woman and her third-year-old daughter. The Rostov police got down, but could not catch the killer: they had neither a photobot, nor any evidence. The famous psychiatrist Alexander Bukhanovsky came to the Rostov investigators.

He compiled the first psychological portrait of a maniac. According to the doctor, the murderer is not crazy and not marginal, but a completely ordinary Soviet citizen, with a good social and material situation. Most likely, he is married and raises children, and his work is connected with the travels. Indeed, when comparing data from different parts of the Union, it turned out that the geography of the murders of the elusive maniac covers a significant territory, he “noted” even in the Moscow, Leningrad and Sverdlovsk regions.

Chikatilo worked in the supply department of one of Shakhtinsk and often went on business trips. However, he created most of his atrocities in Rostov-on-Don and the environs, not far from the place of residence. At night, at the Rostov-on-Don bus station, he met a “dysfunctional” girl and, perhaps, planned to take a walk with her to the nearest forest plantation.

However, his strange behavior interested police officers on duty. A decent dressed citizen who was talking with a sloppy vagabond seemed suspicious to the employee, and Chikatilo was taken to the department. In his portfolio, ropes, a knife and petroleum jelly were found. The man explained that he works in the supply, packs the packages with a rope, cuts the rope with a knife, and Vaseline uses to soften the weathered skin.

The explanations looked convincing, but the citizen Chikatilo was still sent to the Communist Party "until clarifying." The operatives had information that, judging by the biological traces of one of the victims, the maniac should have the fourth blood group. Chikatilo had the second. He was released.At the beginning of the year, when the tension in society increased to the limit, a real hunt was declared on the serial murderer.

The Operation "Forest Polos", in which hundreds of people were involved, cost the state almost ten million rubles. On the streets, bus stations and semi -stations of the Rostov region, police officers were on duty in civilian clothes, paying attention to all suspicious men. In search of a maniac, even military helicopters involved. In the evening, the cities and villages patrolled the warriors.

Unfortunately, almost everyone was recorded in the ranks of the warriors, and Andrei Chikatilo decided to take advantage of this circumstance. Together with other responsible comrades, he participated in the hunt for himself, and, of course, at that time the series of murders ceased. The Operation "Forest Polos" made it possible to identify many offenses and disclose about a thousand crimes, but did not contribute to the capture of the "Rostov maniac".

In the year, he began to kill again.

The patrol officer on duty at the station drew attention to a well -dressed citizen who left the forest. On the costume and hat of this decent look of a man, small twigs and leaves were sticking. The patrol checked the documents of a suspicious citizen and recorded the name in the notebook: Chikatilo. The girl in the forest planting near the railway, the summer residents found a week after a week, and the patrol immediately remembered the strange person met on the platform.

Chikatilo was caught on November 20, when he returned from the clinic: the summer young man, who had killed him a few weeks ago, bit his finger during the struggle, and the wound did not heal for a long time. According to eyewitnesses, he took his arrest in the stories of eyewitnesses quite calmly. True, his recognition managed to achieve only the light of psychiatry Alexander Bukhanovsky, who helped the investigation to draw up a psychological portrait of a maniac.

After communicating with Bukhanovsky, Chikatilo began to testify, willingly sharing both the details of the murders and the episodes of his “hard life”. The Great Patriotic War began when the boy was four years old. Father went to the front, and in the year the Germans came to the village. The killer told how adults and children were shot before his eyes, and he himself was mistaken for the dead when he fell in the crowd.

The boy supposedly had to lie in a heap of the corpses of his friends for the whole night ... However, after years it was already impossible to check this story. In the war years, Andrei and his mother, and later the sister of Tatyana, whose father, according to one version, was the German-solid one almost died of hunger, eating literally led food. The mother could hardly feed the children, they often fell into hungry fainting.

The school years of the future maniac were also joyless: Andrei grew up with a shy and tearful child, besides short -sighted, for this classmates teased and struck him. Until the age of 12, he suffered from an enuree, but the family barely made ends meet, so it was not possible to treat the boy. Chikatilo's first love, according to him, turned into ridicule both from the side of the chosen one and from her friends.

After that, he lost faith in himself as a man. All this, according to the killer’s stories, influenced his character, fate and inclinations. He argued that during his childhood and youth intimidated him, humiliated and did not put him in anything, so he had no chance of growing a normal person. Forensic psychiatric examinations recognized the maniac completely sane, and the court appointed the highest measure of punishment.

They executed Chikatilo on February 14. According to the official conclusion, for the period from the years, 43 people were killed by Chikatilo, the maniac himself attributed to himself 55 murders. Some of his victims are still not identified.
