Biography of Grigory Melekhov

Based on the realities of that time, the author of Roman Sholokhov, clearly illustrated the heavy share of the Don Cossack, who passionately loved and fought selflessly with the enemy. The story of the creation when a new creation was conceived, the author did not think at all that the work as a result would become a whole epic. But it all started quite stereotically. In the fall of the year, Mikhail Sholokhov began writing the first chapters of the work, which initially bore the name “Donishchina”, in which he wanted to display the everyday life of the Don Cossacks in revolutionary times.

So the beginning came out: the Cossacks, led by Kornilov, went to Petrograd. At some point, the writer caught himself thinking that the reader may not understand the motives that were guided by the Cossacks, if not inventing the background, which led to the desire to suppress the revolution. That's why the manuscript was sent to the shelf. About a year passed before the moment when the plan in the head of Mikhail Alexandrovich was fully matured, and he decided to show the life of the people of that time that collided with events, lasting 7 years after a year.

The tragic fate of Grigory Melekhov had to be implemented in the subject, as well as the fate of other main characters. But in order to do this realistic, it was necessary to delve deeper into the customs and life of people who lived in a Cossack farm. Therefore, Sholokhov went to the village of Vishnevskaya, who was his native lands, where he managed to find what he was looking for.

In order to know the atmosphere of those places and see vivid images, Mikhail literally spun the whole district, met and talked with those who became an eyewitness to the First World War and the Revolution. A lot of stories and shoes were heard, information about the beliefs and folklore of the local people was obtained. In addition, the writer investigated the archives in Moscow and Rostov to find truthful data about those dashing years.

And here is the first volume of the novel, which was already renamed the “Quiet Don”, was published, where Russian troops on military fronts were described. From the second volume, the reader learned about the February Revolution and the October Revolution. The echoes of all these events reached the shores of the Don. In the first two parts of the novel, the author was involved somewhere around a hundred characters, to which 70 more heroes were subsequently added.

The whole process of writing was ultimately placed in four volumes, the last of which saw the light of the year. The work was published in many publications of that time, for example, in October and New World, receiving the recognition of readers. They enthusiastically expected the release of each subsequent release of magazines, wrote reviews and letters to Sholokhov.

All the tragic events that took place with the characters of the novel, readers lived with them. One of the most beloved heroes was Grigory Melekhov. It is interesting that in the draft versions of the novel created at the very beginning of its writing, Melekhov did not appear. The hero with this name could be found in the early work of Mikhail in stories. That character was already somewhat similar to a representative of the Don regions.

People involved in the study of the writer noted that the prototype of Gregory was the Cossack Harlampius Ermakov, who was sentenced to death in the X, but the writer himself did not confirm this fact. But he said that he was personally acquainted with Ermakov, corresponded with him and gleaned this man a lot. The character in the work described the entire biography of Grigory Melekhov before the onset of the war years and after them.

The future Cossack was born in the year in the village of Veshenskaya on the Tatar farm. However, the exact date of this event is not in the novel. The father of Gregory was the officer of the Ataman regiment of the Life Guards named Pantelei. But because of old age, he had already left the service. Until a certain point, the young man’s life was quite serene, and he was engaged in typical peasant affairs: mowed grass, caught fish, looked after the household.

At night, he retired with Aksinya Astakhova, who, although she was married, passionately loved the young man. But Melekhov’s father did not understand such an affection of his son, because he married him in Natalia Korshunova, who completely did not like the young man. That's why the wedding did not solve problems. Gregory, realizing that he cannot without Aksinya leaves his legal wife and decides to build his personal life, settling with his beloved in the estate of one of their local panas.

In the summer of the year, Aksinya gives Melekhov the first daughter, but very soon the happy life of the couple will end, since Gregory will be drafted into the army due to the first world. Gregory perfectly showed himself at the front, but in one of the battles he was wounded in the head. The homeland noted the achievement of the fighter by the appropriation of the St. George Cross, as well as Melekhov was increased in the rank.

But during the war years, a man will add 4 medals and 3 crosses to these regalia. Somehow in the hospital he meets the Bolshevik Gaified. After this meeting, the hero’s political views changed, and he begins to understand how unfair the royal rule was. But in the personal life of Gregory, troubles occur. First, his little daughter dies, and his beloved Aksinya begins to live with the son of the owner of the estate.

Melekhov will find out about all this when he returns to a visit. The man simply could not forgive such betrayal, therefore he decided to return to his legitimate wife, who later gave birth to two heirs. With the onset of the Civil War, Melekhov fights on the side of the “Reds”, but in the year they again change political priorities and moves on to those who raised the uprising on the Don against the Bolsheviks and he is appointed commander of the division.

The hatred of the “Reds” by Melekhov increases after he learns about the death of his elder brother Peter from the hands of one of the ardent supporters of the advice of Misha Koshevoy. In Gregory’s love field, everything is also restless, since he cannot understand in any way, a kaka of two women is more important for him. Melekhov still had feelings for Aksinya, because he does not have a calm family life.

Natalia, seeing that her husband regularly cheated on her, decides to do an abortion, which she was destroyed. The death of his wife was a strong blow for Melekhov, after all, he appreciated his wife. The offensive of the Bolshevik troops forces Melekhov to escape to Novorossiysk, where the hero is driven to a dead end still have to go over to their side.

In the year, Grigory returns to his native places and settles along with the offspring of Aksinya. Representatives of the new government began the persecution of dissenters and when the family decided to escape to the Kuban, Aksinya was killed. Having shit around the world for some time, Gregory returns to his native farm again, since the new government promised to amnesty the Cossacks-purests.
